REVOLUTIONARY HYGIENE TECHNOLOGY LAUNCHES IN IRELAND

BIGGEST BREAKTHROUGH IN FIFTY YEARS, TO IMPROVE MILK QUALITY, REDUCE MASTITIS AND LAMENESS

The first products to be officially tested in farm hygiene and infection control for more than fifteen years will be launched at Clongowes Wood College Farm today (June 26) at the Irish Holstein Friesian Association National open day in County Kildare.

Dublin based agricultural distributor Byocal Ireland will be showcasing the Byotrol Agrisphere range of products. This technology is proven to help increase milk quality and yields as well as reducing the occurrence of mastitis in herds. One of the most exciting features about these products is their ability to keep on working for many hours after drying, while the condition of the teats is excellent.

The Agrisphere technology contains a revolutionary patented formula called Byotrol. This formulation is incredibly effective at killing micro-organisms but it does not contain any iodine, chlorine or chlorohexidine. As such its use ensures that none of these potentially harmful chemicals are introduced into the food chain.

All Byotrol Agrisphere Products are extremely safe to handle and use and as such require no special handling, storage or disposal procedures. Product can be washed away without fear of contaminating or damaging land or water courses.

The Agrisphere range of products offer total farm hygiene and includes teat dip and impregnated wipes for pre or post milking sanitisation as well as a foaming hand mousse for use by staff on hands or gloves providing longer and safer protection against cross contamination than any products presently available

The range is completed by Microcleanse concentrate, a powerful disinfectant suitable for use across all areas of the farm from sanitising milking equipment to cleaning hard surfaces. It is also DEFRA, DARD and Dept of Agriculture approved.

Following extensive research and farm trials Byocal Ireland is also launching Hoof bath and Hoof Guard products to help combat conditions like foot rot and digital dermatitis, both of which cost the wider farming industry millions of Euro every year.

The Agrisphere range has been in use over the past twelve months at Clongowes Wood College Farm which has a herd of 240 milking cows. According to Farm Manager Pat Fanning, “We have seen impressive results which has been very effective in controlling our SCC & TBC count"

According to Colm Fitzpatrick of Byocal Ireland, “The launch of this technology represents a real breakthrough for Irish Dairy farmers and will improve milk quality and yields while also contributing to overall herd health. Ireland is one of the leading exporters of milk world wide with 85% of the country’s milk products exported representing over €2 billion in value to the Irish dairy industry. Everyone has a part to play in ensuring the best quality milk is produced which includes companies like Byocal Ireland in supplying Irish farmers with the most effective range of products, that works unlike anything else to ensure they can meet the ever demanding requirements of Europe and globally.

It is vitally important that as an industry we do everything we can to maintain product quality and the Byotrol technology has a key role to play in fulfilling this vision.”

MRSA WIPES PROBLEM ALREADY SOLVED AND AVAILABLE TO NHS SAYS HYGIENE TECHNOLOGY EXPERT

The solution to the problem of disinfectant wipes spreading MRSA in hospitals is already available and operational within the food industry and has also been proven to be effective within a hospital setting says one of the UK’s leading cleaning technology companies.

Byotrol plc is an AIM listed company that has developed a revolutionary technology which directly addresses the problem of wipes spreading infection and the company’s products are already approved or in use in the food industry with organisations including Heinz and Marks and Spencer.

And the technology has also been proven to significantly reduce the spread of MRSA in a hospital setting in a six month independently supervised study, undertaken in 2006 at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where it was shown that using wipes impregnated with Byotrol technology on around of 5% of high contact surfaces reduced the incidence of MRSA by up to 50% and for several weeks during the trial there was no MRSA detected at all.

Since this study at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the Byotrol technology has been made available to the NHS via leading healthcare supplies and services provider Synergy Healthcare who licenced the technology within weeks of the data from the study being made public

The Byotrol technology can address the issue of wipes spreading MRSA which has been highlighted by a Cardiff University Study.

According to Byotrol Deputy Chairman Stephen Falder, “We have the solution to the problem of conventional wipes spreading MRSA and what’s more it is a proven solution that is already in use.

“The findings of the Cardiff study come as no surprise to us because hospitals are essentially using a post war  old technology to manage a 21st century issue.

“Our technology  is really special because Byotrol continues to kill micro-organisms after the wipe has been used, unlike current products that stop working as soon as they dry and this means that even if Byotrol impregnated wipes do spread microbes such as MRSA around they will be killed where they remain by the residual action of our technology..

“Put simply if you clean a surface with a wipe impregnated with Byotrol the cleaning process will continue on and on literally wiping out any microbial survivors as opposed to just moving them about.

“We concur with many of the findings of the Cardiff University Study and know that our technology can move a long way to solving this issue now. This is not just a bright idea or a wish list. Our technology is proven and it is available to the NHS. Hospitals simply need to adopt it and hopefully the findings of the Cardiff study will be consigned, to history,” Stephen Falder adds.

BYOTROL AND TECHCLEAN LEAD THE FIGHT AGAINST SUPERBUGS SPREAD THROUGH OFFICE EQUIPMENT

Leading anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc is working with specialist IT cleaning company Techclean Services Limited to lead the fight against superbugs spread through office equipment.

The move to address infection transmission in the workplace comes on the back of a study which examined bacteria levels on different surfaces in a UK office. The study found that the level of bacteria contamination on keyboards is up to 14 times higher than toilet seats*.

ByoClean is the first in a range of unique products to be launched by Techclean and Byotrol.  ByoClean uses Byotrol, an innovative anti-microbial technology that safely controls or eradicates the threats caused by micro-organisms, such as MRSA, e.coli and C.difficile. It comes in a disposable wipe format, providing easy and effective IT hygiene cleaning for phones, PCs, printers, photocopiers, laptops, EPOS and projectors.

Stephen Falder, Deputy Chairman for Byotrol explains: “Office equipment is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Skin diseases, fungal infections, hepatitis and blood poisoning can be transmitted via a keyboard alone. Bugs such as listeria, salmonella and MRSA have also been found on office equipment.

“As part of the Techclean product range, ByoClean has been proven through a programme of independent testing to be effective against micro-organisms, including MRSA. By working with Techclean, we aim to raise awareness of the disease that can spread via office equipment and provide an easy and effective solution to fight against it.”

Richard Samarasinghe, Operations Director at Techclean Services Limited commented: “Companies are happy to employ window cleaners and people to vacuum but many of them forget about the danger at their finger tips. Every time we fire off an email we could be picking up a dangerous infection. A flu virus can survive for many hours living in a keyboard.”

ByoClean was recently launched at the Techclean Services Limited 25th gala conference for their branch network this month. David McRobbie, Chief Executive at Byotrol was a guest speaker at this two-day event.

Techclean Services Limited provides cleaning services via its 55 branches nationwide. It can also test keyboards for bacterial contamination.

BYOTROL PROMOTES HOLISTIC HYGIENE AT FOOD HYGIENE SEMINAR

Byotrol, the anti microbial technology company which has recently had its Byosan product approved by Marks and Spencer as an Approved Terminal Disinfectant for use within M&S’s food manufacture supply chain is set to promote its holistic approach to food industry hygiene at a seminar on March 12.

The Seminar, organised by the Society of Food Hygiene and Technology is being held at the Hilton Hotel in Bracknell and will see Byotrol promote its Nanosphere range of products for use in food service and food processing environments.

The Byotrol technology offers a number of key benefits over existing disinfectant technology including residual efficacy which means surfaces to which Byotrol is applied continue to have anti-microbial properties several days after application.

The residual action can help food processing plants improve hygiene levels and save money in energy and water costs associated with the application and use of conventional disinfectants.

Another key benefit of the Nanosphere range is the fact that it has an extremely low toxicity profile compared to other disinfectants used in the food service industry. The technology is non corrosive and does not contain alcohol which makes it ideal for use in personal hygiene applications for workers in the food industry.

It is this combination of attributes than makes Nanosphere ideal for use as an holistic approach right across food processing environments and the company will be showcasing a range of products including personal hygiene hand mousses, as well as hard surface cleaners and room fogging systems. This means Byotrol can be used across a plant thus ensuring consistent microbial control. The other key attribute of the technology is the fact that it works against resistant strains of bacteria as well as moulds and spores thus reducing the need to rotate disinfectants to combat resistance.

Commenting on the technology Byotrol Sales Manager Gary Hilton says “We now have approval for use of our technology from one of the UK’s leading food retailers in the shape of Marks & Spencer and we are clear that Byotrol can deliver real and tangible benefits to those in the food processing and service industries.

“Importantly our holistic approach can save time and money as well as improving hygiene levels,” Gary Hilton adds.

Byotrol plc, the anti microbial technology company stopping the spread of superbugs in hospitals and hygiene issues in food factories is now an official supplier to Perfect Example, the leading provider of professional domestic cleaning services.

With a presence in the Cornwall and Devon region, Perfect Example cleans both residential and holiday homes in the area and chose to work with Byotrol based on the efficacy of its technology coupled with its safety and environmental credentials.

Following stringent testing, Perfect Example has now signed a manufacturing agreement with Byotrol plc which includes the company’s own label product incorporating Byotrol’s technology.

The decision to utilise Byotrol was based upon the efficacy of the Byotrol technology, its low hazard and low toxicity combined with the excellent benefits the technology brings to removing microbial growth. Byotrol’s technology is safe to use in the home environment as it is not considered poisonous to humans, animals or plants and it is fully biodegradable in landfill and waste water.

Byotrol continues to work for extended periods after application and due to the functionality of the technology, development of resistance by micro-organisms is highly unlikely.

Commenting on the partnership with Byotrol, Scott Fairhurst of Perfect Example said: “We use a huge amount of cleaning chemicals a year so we set about reviewing which chemicals were the most environmentally friendly, which ones actually worked and what would be the safest cleaning chemical to use by our staff, in our customer’s premises.”

Scott Fairhurst continues: “All our mainstream cleaning will now be done using our “detergent sanitiser” product which is great news for the environment, our customers and our staff. Byotrol have really impressed us and we are delighted to have such a great, environmentally friendly product that deals effectively with bacteria and helps us deliver an even higher level of cleanliness and sanitisation.”

Gary Hilton, Sales Manager for Byotrol adds: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Perfect Example. At Byotrol we have a product range that provides a total hygiene control solution therefore eliminating the need to change products every few months to combat resistance.

“Our technology really can deliver significant cost savings in the cleaning industry due to the fact that it continues to work for extended periods after application. The residual efficacy not only keeps surfaces microbially safer for longer, but also makes surfaces easier to clean, thus delivering our unique “stay clean” effect. We look forward to seeing the success of Perfect Example’s own label product keeping homes clean and sanitised across Cornwall.”

In addition, the fact that our technology combines low toxicity with residual efficacy and broadband effect are a real breakthrough for the farming industry – saving farmers both time and money “

The development of the products is the latest in Byotrol’s partnership with The Active Group, which has been providing innovative products to the agricultural industry since 1994. Actively supporting UK farmers, The Active Group has been identifying methods to bring improved practices and products helping to streamline and reduce the individual farmer’s workload.

NATIONWIDE GOES GREEN WITH ALGAE BUSTING BUILDING CLEANER

Leading building society Nationwide has turned to a technology originally developed to combat the spread of hospital super bugs such as MRSA to help give its head office a spring clean and reduce the company’s environmental footprint at the same time.

Nationwide has called on anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc to help keep the exterior of its 350,000 sq ft head office in Swindon clean and free of green algae which builds up most frequently on the north facing cladding, louvres and fire escapes.

Cleaning the building and the surrounding fire escapes is important for Nationwide from both an aesthetic and duty of care perspective. The company has traditionally kept these areas clean by pressure washing.

Now in a bid to reduce wastage, Nationwide has called in Byotrol plc and by using their technology, Nationwide aims to save 500,000 litres of water normally required to pressure wash the building every year. The reduction in water usage will also save the company up to £25,000 annually in cleaning costs.

Byotrol’s anti-microbial technology will allow the Nationwide to remove green algae from both the head office building and surrounding pathways and keeping paths clean will help improve health and safety by reducing the risk of slips and falls.

Byotrol plc originally developed its technology to stop the spread of hospital super bugs such as MRSA. The technology offers a number of unique benefits over existing biocides and these product characteristics have been adapted to provide an environmentally friendly solution to the problem of cleaning buildings.

Byotrol markets its building cleaning products under the name Intersphere and as well as helping Nationwide reduce water usage, Intersphere will offer the company a number of additional benefits.

Pressure washing can damage exterior surfaces, but Intersphere, classed as a non hazardous, non flammable product, is neither corrosive nor abrasive and is compatible with virtually all substrates. This means it does not compromise the integrity of the building materials and has an ultra low toxicity profile for the user.

But perhaps most importantly for Nationwide is the fact that Intersphere is residual which means it continues to work for an extended period of time following application, which can be months or years depending on the environmental conditions.

Unlike any cleaning chemicals, Intersphere leaves an invisible, microscopically thin, anti-microbial coating on any surface it is applied to and this continues to kill organisms for months after application, reducing the frequency of cleaning required to keep the building in top condition

Commenting on Nationwide’s decision to select Intersphere, Byotrol Deputy Chairman Stephen Falder said, “This is a win-win for Nationwide and we are delighted to be able to assist in keeping the exterior of their Swindon office clean whilst reducing their environmental footprint. Applying Intersphere is quick and easy and requires no special equipment and we are confident that the residual action means the company will not have to clean the building so frequently.”

Tim Plummer of Nationwide comments, “This technology has been proven in a number of settings where Byotrol has conducted extensive tests and the results have been very pleasing. Using Intersphere at Nationwide will allow us to keep the building clean while allowing us to reduce our environmental impact.”

BYOTROL SAYS ARRIVEDERCI TO ALGAE IN VENICE

Byotrol plc, the UK company stopping the spread of superbugs in hospitals and hygiene issues in food factories has been called in to eliminate the persistent problem of algal growth on the iconic buildings and walkways of Venice.

Originally developed to combat harmful organisms such as E.coli and MRSA found in the food and healthcare sectors, Byotrol is a broadband anti-microbial technology that couples ultra low toxicity with residual efficacy. The company’s cleaning products have been utilised to clean and remove algae, mould and mildew stains that are prone to gathering in every corner of the historical city.

With the approval of Dr Mario Scattolin, Dirigente Direzione Ambiene e Sicurezza del Territorio (Director for the Environment and Protection of the Territory of Venice), Byotrol was invited to conduct important trials within the city. This was a bold step as the use of chemicals on the Venetian buildings and walkways had previously been banned in the city prior to this trial.

The decision to utilise Byotrol was based upon the extensive data supplied regarding the efficacy of the Byotrol technology, its low hazard and low toxicity combined with the excellent benefits the technology brings to removing microbial growth. Byotrol’s technology is so attractive compared to sandblasting and other cleaning techniques because it will not have any detrimental effect on or cause erosion of the stone buildings involved in the trial which have been submerged in deep water for centuries.

Valentina Gasparini, liaising with the Venetian authorities, has been delighted with the project and sees the benefits of using Byotrol technology within her hometown and was impressed with how visually clean the steps and slipways were after applying the Byotrol “the chances of slipping whilst using the steps was much reduced once Byotrol had been applied”

The technology offers a number of benefits over conventional mould and mildew stain removal treatments because it continues to work for extended periods after application. In addition, the substance has an extremely low toxicity to humans and due to the functionality of the technology, development of resistance by micro-organisms is highly unlikely.

The trials which have been in place since June have already proven to show good results. Dottore Mario Scattolin comments: “La Serenissima is a precious city, rich in history and iconic buildings and walkways of which we are very proud. Every year millions of Euros are spent on maintaining the cleanliness of this world heritage site and keeping it so beautiful.

“The decision to appoint Byotrol was based on using an anti-microbial technology that couples ultra low toxicity with residual efficacy with no detrimental effect on aquatic life. It was also of paramount importance that any technology utilised in the city would not affect landmarks of historical significance or people living in or visiting the city.

“Following regular inspections, we are absolutely delighted with the results of the trial to date as Byotrol has been highly effective at removing mould and algae and the areas tested have inhibited further growth. This product is extremely easy to use and delivers a long lasting and effective treatment for our city.”

Paul Vasey, leading the trial for Byotrol added: “This has been a very exciting and fascinating trial for the Byotrol team. We feel really honoured to be able to provide tangible results for this beautiful floating city and look forward to meeting with the Public Services Division of Venice to discuss the next phase of this pioneering project.

“The Byotrol technology is extremely versatile and this latest application demonstrates how a core technology can be adapted to different scenarios. Importantly the technology is also extremely effective at eliminating the odours associated with stagnant water during the summer months. We believe our product offers a cost effective and easy to use application that will deliver real benefit to the people of Venice for years to come.”

GLEE CLEARS THE WAY FOR REVOLUTIONARY CLEANING PRODUCT

This year’s Glee event on the 16th – 18th September at the Birmingham NEC Arena will see the launch of “Clearway” - a revolutionary cleaning product originally developed to kill dangerous bacteria such as E.coli and hospital superbug MRSA.

The product called Clearway promises to banish algae and mould on outdoor furniture, buildings including greenhouses, decking and patios for up to six months while being considerably less toxic than other products currently on the market.

Developed by fast growing anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc, the products already provide technology to stop the spread of harmful bacteria and micro-organisms in the food and healthcare industries.

The Clearway product will be distributed mainly by DBM to the garden trade and DIY sectors. It will be available through good garden centres in a 750ml trigger spray retailing at £6.99 and a 2.5 litre concentrate retailing at £10.99 and is suitable for dilution and use in garden spray equipment.

The product offers numerous advantages over existing cleaners available on the market and requires no special or protective equipment to use or apply it. It also has an extremely low toxicity profile to humans, plants and animals, which also makes it easy to apply.

Stephen Falder Business Development Director for Byotrol plc said: “The Clearway range offers gardeners a great way to combat build up of mould and algae. The formulation of the product offers low environmental impact and it degrades harmlessly and we believe this to be another advantage of the range over other products.”

The products are non hazardous to humans, animals and plants and significantly the technology does not promote resistance in susceptible micro-organisms.

Byotrol’s Sales Manager Gary Hilton comments: “The launch of the Agrisphere range has been a real breakthrough for farmers to date and we are delighted to receive Defra approval for the Microcleanse Concentrate. Current farm trials have demonstrated the highly residual effect of the range and we look forward to providing a total hygiene solution for many farmers across the UK.”

BYOTROL - THE BREAKTHROUGH IN INFECTION CONTROL

A revolutionary technology solution from leading anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc is now available for all AIMS members to provide total hygiene control right across the supply chain – literally from farm to fork.

This solution cannot only deliver significant cost savings in the area of hygiene but also eliminates the need to change cleaning products every few months to combat resistance. The technology combines low toxicity and minimal taint with residual efficacy and broadband effect, which is a real breakthrough for the Independent Meat Suppliers Association and the food processing industry as a whole.

At present, the cost of using water in a cleaning process is around £4 per tonne by the time it has been made suitable for return to the environment. Because Byotrol’s toxicity is several orders of magnitude lower than most other disinfectants on the market and its components are biodegradable, there is a potential immediate saving to be made over conventional biocides in this area alone.

Unlike other products on the market place, Byotrol is ideally suited for use right across the supply chain from general cleaning, through to production line sanitisation and personal hygiene control. At the other end of the chain, fogging products are suitable for not only cleaning meat manufacturing plants but even transport and containers. Byotrol plc has split its offering into three defined areas namely, Intersphere, Nanosphere and Agrisphere to demonstrate the single consistent approach to microbial control.

At the start of the cycle Byotrol’s Intersphere range is the first product to effectively and permanently control micro-organisms which develop on the interior and exterior walls of buildings such as abattoirs. The Intersphere range is available in a number of formats including 750ml ready for use trigger sprays for localized application through to 5 and 20 litre ready for use containers as well as 5 and 20 litre concentrate containers. Byotrol technology has also been incorporated into an anti microbial paint which offers long lasting microbial control and is much more cost effective than white tiling your entire premises.

Then there is Byotrol’s Nanosphere range which is designed specifically for the Food processing industries and comprises a full portfolio of products to tackle all the hygiene issues involved in today’s complex commercial food environments, such as preventing and combating food spoilage organisms such as Pseudomonas and E.Coli especially prevalent in meat/poultry processing. Byotrol plc recommends a cleaning regime consisting of a thorough deep clean of all equipment including conveyor belts and production lines using Byotrol’s fogging machinery. The misting unit applies the Byotrol technology in a fine aerosol and ensures all surfaces, including hard to reach areas, are cleaned. In addition, a hand held trigger spray and disposable wipes impregnated with Byotrol are used for treatment of all hard surfaces.

Completing the cycle is Byotrol’s Agrisphere product range which provides a comprehensive range of cleaning and sanitising products for farmers. The product range includes DEFRA approved Microcleanse concentrate liquid for dilution for use on buildings, equipment, animals’ hooves and hoof care. Dairysan teat dip and spray as well as teat wipes for teats and milk clusters are also available, along with Dairysan hard surface wipes for hard contact surfaces. A Dairycleanse concentrate liquid for dilution in open plant and cubicles and the Agricare hand santising mousse complete the Agrisphere product range.

So how does this revolutionary technology work?

Byotrol products have a four stage effect on micro-organisms using changes in surface tension as the basis of their attack.

1. Byotrol’s component biocides attack micro-organisms on a surface as soon as the product is applied.

2. Byotrol then conditions the surfaces before additional micro-organisms land, making it more difficult for the micro-organisms to settle on the surface, attach and reproduce.

3. When micro-organisms secrete material in an attempt to form a biofilm, (i.e. attachment properties which enable biofilm production) the secretion compounds – proteins, polysaccharides or oily type materials – are all disrupted by the pervading surface tension regime, making it much more difficult or impossible for the organisms to form a firm attachment to the surface.

4. Finally, the micro-organisms, in their weakened state, succumb to Byotrol’s residual, long lasting biocidal action provided by its component biocides. These are not aggressive chemical compounds, but when acting on a micro-organism, they cause the organism’s membrane to burst before it has a chance to reproduce.

The effectiveness of any biocide is combination of the toxicity of the biocide combined with the time it is contact with the surface it is being used to clean. Most developments in disinfectant in recent years have focused on making the biocide increasingly potent, with little or no development in contact time. If you can significantly increase the contact time from seconds (most current technologies) to hours, days, weeks and even months, the effectiveness of your biocide increases exponentially and importantly you can achieve successful disinfection with much milder biocides which are significantly less harmful to humans and animals. It is this use of increased contact time coupled with relatively mild biocides that makes the Byotrol technology so effective.

The technology is based around a nano-polymer combined with a number of biocides. The polymer is inert and highly stable and when applied to a surface it forms a microscopically thin and invisible layer which conditions the surface and makes it difficult if not impossible for organisms to settle on it. Because the polymer is inert and stable it remains in place for days, weeks and even months at a time depending on the formulation of the Byotrol product being used. It is this polymer which provides the residual efficacy meaning Byotrol technology works long after application. Associated with the polymer are a range of biocides and it is these biocides which actually kill the organisms.

The Byotrol technology has been tested and certified against protocol EN1276 (clean and dirty conditions) by Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association. In addition to eradicating and E.Coli, Byotrol has been proven to successfully eradicate difficult pathogens such as Listeria and Clostridium and in fact all food spoilage or pathogenic bacteria of concern to the meat processing industry. Having passed CCFRA taint tests, Byotrol is ideal for use in the meat and poultry industry.

Janet Frank, Operations Manager at AIMS comments: “At AIMS we are continuously addressing the issues faced by small and medium sized abattoir owners and are always on the look out to identify products that can provide measurable benefits. I am confident that Byotrol Plc’s extensive product range will provide our members with the peace of mind and knowledge that their abattoir is consistently protected from the spread of bacteria.”

Byotrol’s Sales Manager, Gary Hilton adds: “We are offering a total hygiene control solution that eliminates the need to change products every few months to combat resistance and are very much looking forward to working together to offer help and advice to all AIMS members.”

Anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc has given Rhys International authorisation to promote, sell and distribute their new innovative range of Nanosphere and Intersphere biocide products.

Byotrol’s Nanosphere range is designed specifically for the Food and Beverage industries and comprises a full portfolio of products to tackle all the hygiene issues involved in today’s complex commercial food environments, such as preventing and combating pathogens including listeria and salmonella.

Byotrol’s Intersphere range is the first product to effectively and permanently control micro-organisms which develop into algae and other similar fungal species. Byotrol’s Intersphere range is split into three clear areas namely, “Clearway” which is specifically developed for reducing microbial biofilm on items such as road signs, street furniture, bus shelters and solar panels; “Inhibitor” for use in high exposure areas around coastal and inland waterways such as slipways, pontoons and decking and “Sanitizer” which is ideal for areas where mico-organisms, including moulds cause a contaminating problem – ideally used for door handles, WC handles and washing machines.

BYOTROL ERADICATES LISTERIA IN CHEESE FACTORY

For cheese manufacturers, control of Listeria is one of the major challenges facing their industry. One proactive company in Cheshire enlisted the help of anti-microbial technology company Byotrol PLC to eradicate any traces of Listeria and ensure that all cheese leaving their factory is Listeria free.

JS Bailey is a successful family owned business, with 60 employees at their factory, distributing between 100 and 120 tonnes of cheese a week to food service organisations and manufacturing companies across the UK.

With three production sites, often cold in temperature, Listeria is always at the forefront of the company’s radar to ensure that contamination does not occur. JS Bailey purchase cheese from across the UK and Europe for grating, re-milling and cutting and as such have a superior vetting process to certify that any contaminated cheeses that arrive at the site are removed immediately.

Having worked with several chemical service providers in the past, Dan Smith, QA Manager explains why he is so happy with both the results and level of service received from Byotrol PLC: “We contacted Byotrol PLC to ascertain how we could eradicate and prevent any trace of Listeria. We were absolutely astounded by the findings and in just under 6 months not only are we continuing to use Byotrol but it has eliminated any trace of infection, which for a cheese processing plant is almost unheard of.

“The fact that we no longer have to use a foaming agent is also an added bonus, as not only does using Byotrol reduce our water usage but as foam is very alkaline any aluminium equipment was corroding far too often. With Byotrol our productivity record has increased dramatically and if I ever need any assistance I know that Byotrol are just at the other end of the phone line which is reassuring to know.” Dan Smith added.

JS Bailey’s cleaning regime now consists of a thorough deep clean of all their equipment including conveyor belts and production lines using Byotrol’s fogging machinery. The misting unit applies the Byotrol technology in a fine aerosol and ensures all surfaces, including hard to reach areas, are cleaned. In addition, a hand held trigger spray and disposable wipes impregnated with Byotrol are used for treatment of all hard surfaces.

According to Byotrol’s Business Development Director Stephen Falder, “We are absolutely delighted with our findings at JS Bailey. As a company we are offering food manufacturer’s a total hygiene control solution that eliminates the need to change products every few months to combat resistance. The fact that our technology combines low toxicity and minimal taint with residual efficacy and broadband effect are a real breakthrough for the food processing industry.

“In the long term, our technology can deliver significant cost savings in the area of hygiene while at the same time improving overall performance and control.

“Our technology is ideally suited for use right across the supply chain from cleaning raw materials on entry through to production line sanitisation and personal hygiene control and at the other end of the chain our fogging products are suitable for not only cleaning cheese manufacturing plants but even transport and containers,” Stephen Falder adds.

The Byotrol technology has been fully tested and certified for use in the food industry by the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association.

In addition to combating Listeria, the Byotrol products deliver broadband control of a wide range of micro-organisms including Legionella, E.coli, Salmonella, S aureus and campylo bacter coupled with residual effect which means the product continues to be effective for up to seven days after application. Importantly Byotrol is a technology to which organisms cannot develop resistance and offers a cleaning technology with extremely low levels of toxicity compared to anything else on the market. Having passed CCFRA taint tests makes it ideal for use in the food industry.

As well as eliminating the need to change products every few months to combat development of resistance, the Nanosphere product range for food offers a single methodology for managing all areas of infection control depending on the environment.

For management of high care areas, Byotrol is launching a foaming floor and surface cleaner which produces a visible foam when applied, thus ensuring operatives do not miss any areas when cleaning. The Nanosphere range is completed with a pipeline cleaning fluid.

For personal care, Byotrol PLC recommend their foaming hand mousse, which combines long lasting action with an alcohol free formulation that minimises dry skin and dermatitis that sometimes arises from use of products containing alcohol. It is hoped that this will be introduced to the JS Bailey plant later this year.

BYOTROL AND CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICILE

Clostridium difficile (c difficile) is a member of a family of bacterium, many of which are pathogenic and many of which are difficult to kill and eradicate, principally because they form highly resistant spores which are capable of remaining dormant for a prolonged period of time.

Byotrol has been tested against c difficile and against a related “simulant” - bacillus subtilis - and it is highly effective against c difficile in its vegetative state (when it is growing and virulant).

Many disinfectants are effective against c difficile at this phase, however Byotrol has also been tested and found to kill/attenuate the spores of c difficile. This is regarded as a more difficult process and is a result of Byotrol’s combination of physical and chemical action and its residual, durable presence on treated surfaces.

Because of the nature of c difficile and the way it persists, the company expects to work closely with any potential customer concerned about c difficiile to ensure that byotrol can be used to the maximum effect against this persistent and difficult organism.

BYOTROL SIGNS DEAL WITH CEDAR CARE HOMES

Byotrol plc, the leading anti microbial technology company has signed a deal with exclusive care home provider, Cedar Care Homes for the use of its assure range across all its residential homes.

Based in the South West area, the organisation contains a group of six independent care homes. High standards of care and services have been developed through 15 years of experience and understanding of the needs of the people Cedar Care Homes look after.

With its high standards in exclusive settings, Cedar Care Homes selected Byotrol’s assure range to ensure that its high technology product would provide safety for their residents. The spread of MRSA and other pathogens represents a major risk within the care home environment and Cedar Care Homes selected Byotrol’s assure range to ensure preventative measures were in place.

The assure range includes hand held sprays available in 750ml trigger spray bottles, a hand sanitising mousse in a 600ml bootle of handy pocket sized 50ml pump action and assure cleaning and sanitising wipes ideal for cleaning equipment including wheelchairs and zimmer frames.

The deodorising products offer similar levels of long term efficacy and the chemicals used in the formulation of Byotrol products are suitable for use on a wide variety of fabrics and materials and do not damage or mark the materials during or after usage. The deodoriser is highly effective in eliminating urine odours from carpets and fabrics, a key issue for many care home operators.

The assure range offers sanitisation and deodorisation in a variety of situations. All products offer long lasting protection against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms including E. coli, Legionella and Listeria, as well as MRSA. The deodorising products are also highly effective at eliminating odours from a wide range of surfaces and furnishings.

GARDENERS SET TO BANISH BACTERIA AND ELIMINATE ALGAE WITH BUG BUSTING CLEANING PRODUCTS

A revolutionary patio and decking cleaning product which utilises technology originally developed to kill dangerous bacteria such as E.coli and hospital superbug MRSA is being launched in the UK.

The product called, StayClean with Byotrol, promises to banish algae and mould on outdoor furniture, decking and patios for up to three months while being considerably less toxic than other products currently on the market. The new product was showcased at the gardening and leisure industry’s leading show, GLEE in Birmingham earlier this month where it was well received by the trade.

The StayClean product which is available in a handheld trigger spray utilises technology developed by fast growing anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc.

In addition, the range also includes a hand mousse for cleaning hands after working in the garden. Unlike other products on the market, this range of hygienic cleaners contains no alcohol and is extremely gentle to skin while being highly effective at killing a wide range of harmful micro-organisms.

Byotrol has developed the technology which is extremely effective at combating the spread of bacteria and growth of mould and algae and the product offers a number of significant advantages compared to any other product currently available on the market.

Most importantly for gardeners is the fact that the product offers long lasting protection against mould and algae growth thus reducing the need for repeat applications and the disinfectant ranges continue to work for up to seven days after application. Equally key is the fact that the product has an extremely low toxicity profile to humans, plants and animals, making it easy to apply and requiring no special equipment. And because of the way the Byotrol technology works, it is highly unlikely that organisms can develop resistance to the technology.

Stephen Falder Business Development Director for Byotrol plc said: “The StayClean range offers gardeners a great way to combat build up of mould and algae as well as protecting themselves against harmful bacteria and micro-organisms which are ever present in the garden. The formulation of the product offers low environmental impact and it degrades harmlessly and we believe this to be another advantage of the range over other products.

Roger Stewart, Director of StayClean comments: “This is a fantastic product which delivers exactly what it promises. Products such as decking and garden furniture are not cheap and keeping them free of algae is a never ending job. The StayClean range promises to simplify this task and give gardeners a product which is gentle on skin but tough on bacteria.”

BYOTROL LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY CLEANING AND HYGIENE TECHNOLOGY FOR FOOD MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

A company which originally developed cleaning and hygiene technology to stop the spread of hospital superbugs such as MRSA has launched a revolutionary product range for use in the hospitality industry.

Anti-microbial technology company Byotrol is launching a comprehensive range of hygiene control and disinfectant products for food under the Byosphere name. The Byotrol technology has been fully tested and certified for use in the food industry by the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association.

The products deliver broad band control of a wide range of micro-organisms including Listeria, Legionella, E.coli, Salmonella, S aureus and campylo bacter coupled with residual effect which means the product continues to be effective for up to seven days after application.  Importantly Byotrol is a technology to which organisms cannot develop resistance and offers a cleaning technology with extremely low levels of toxicity compared to anything else on the market, having passed CCFRA taint tests, making it ideal for use in the food industry.

As well as eliminating the need to change products every few months to combat development of resistance, the Byosphere product range for food offers a single methodology for managing all areas of infection control depending on the environment.

The company is launching a total of six products that will enable food manufacturers to manage all areas of cleaning and hygiene control.

For personal care, the company is launching a foaming hand mousse, which combines long lasting action with an alcohol free formulation that minimises dry skin and dermatitis that sometimes arises from use of products containing alcohol.

For treatment of surfaces, Byotrol has developed a hand held trigger spray and disposable wipes impregnated with Byotrol.

For management of high care areas, Byotrol is launching a foaming floor and surface cleaner which produces a visible foam when applied, thus ensuring operatives do not  miss any areas when cleaning.

The company is also offering a range of fogging equipment which allows food manufacturers to conduct a thorough deep clean of equipment such as conveyor belts and production lines. The misting unit applies the Byotrol technology in a fine aerosol and ensures all surfaces, including hard to reach areas, are cleaned.

The Byosphere range is completed with a pipeline cleaning fluid.

3 .When micro-organisms secrete material in an attempt to form a biofilm, (i.e. attachment properties which enable biofilm production) the secretion compounds – proteins, polysaccharides or oily type materials – are all disrupted by the pervading surface tension regime, making it much more difficult or impossible for the organisms to form a firm attachment to the surface.

According to Byotrol’s Business Development Director Stephen Falder, “We are offering food manufacturer’s a total hygiene control solution that eliminates the need to change products every few months to combat resistance. The fact that our technology combines low toxicity and minimal taint with residual efficacy and broadband effect are a real breakthrough for the food processing industry. “

“In the long term, our technology can deliver significant cost savings in the area of hygiene while at the same time improving overall performance and control.

“Our technology is ideally suited for use right across the supply chain from cleaning raw materials on entry through to production line sanitisation and personal hygiene control and at the other end of the chain our fogging products are suitable for cleaning transport and containers,” Stephen Falder adds.

All products are available from Byotrol plc on 0161 277 9518

Sir Digby and Daid McRobbie image

CBI Director General Sir Digby Jones is set to make a flying visit to the North West this Thursday (18 May) to see the progress made by one of the region’s newest and oldest companies and welcome on board one of the company’s newest and youngest recruits. The visit could be one of the last made by the CBI Chief to the North West because he is set to step down from the role at the end of June.

Sir Digby is set to visit speciality coatings company HMG Paints, which was one of the first firms he visited when he took charge at the CBI as well as dropping in to anti-microbial technology specialist Byotrol plc, the company leading the fight against the spread of MRSA in hospitals.

HMG Paints is a member and active supporter of the CBI and is owned and operated by the Falder family. The firm has been trading for more than 75 years out of its Collyhurst Headquarters and is one of the region’s manufacturing success stories having grown to a turnover in excess of £20 million with more than 200 employees.

Byotrol was spun out of HMG Paints and listed on London’s Alternative Investment Market in July 2005. Byotrol has developed an anti-microbial technology that is being used across a wide range of sectors from healthcare where it is being used to combat the spread of drug resistant strains such as MRSA through to the food industry where the technology is helping food manufacturers raise hygiene standards within production facilities.

As well as meeting HMG Managing Director John Falder, Sir Digby will welcome Byotrol’s newest and youngest recruit, 15 year old Jordan Downes from Our Lady’s Sports College, who has joined the company on a work experience placement.

According to Stephen Falder, Business Development Director of Byotrol and a Director of HMG Paints, “The two businesses illustrate the best of what North West plc has to offer and show how a traditional established old economy company can act as the catalyst for one of the region’s newest growth companies in a fast growing sector.

“As a long term and committed supporter of the CBI, we are delighted to welcome Sir Digby on what could be one of his last visits to the region before he hands over the mantle to a new Director General in the not too distant future,” Stephen Falder added.

BYOTROL SECURES MAJOR CONTRACT WITH IRISH HEALTHCARE DISTRIBUTOR

Byotrol, the AIM listed anti-microbial technology company has secured a major contract to supply its technology to Irish based healthcare company Audit Diagnostics which will see Byotrol products used in hospital and medical laboratories worldwide.

Audit Diagnostics is a leading independent supplier of diagnostic products and equipment to hospital and medical laboratories on a global basis.

The contract will see an initial order of £60,000 for Byotrol’s technology which is being incorporated into a range of anti-bacterial wipes, sprays and mousses. These will be distributed to hospital and medical facilities worldwide under Audit Diagnostics Sterl STAT brand. The product range will be co-branded with Byotrol positioned as an ingredient brand in line with the company’s corporate brand development strategy

The deal represents a significant milestone for Byotrol because hospital laboratories are among the most demanding environments from an infection control perspective with much of the knowledge and expertise on the subject concentrated within this area of a hospital or medical establishment. The deal also means Byotrol’s technology will be deployed within hospitals on a global basis.

The company is confident that this is the first in a series of potential future orders from Audit Diagnostics and Byotrol’s technology offers a number of benefits over existing infection control methodologies.

Byotrol's products have been proven through a programme of independent testing to be effective for up to seven days after application and work against a wide range of micro-organisms including . coli Legionella and Listeria, as well as MRSA.

The products are not toxic to humans and because of how the technology works, do not promote resistance in susceptible micro-organisms. The chemicals used in the formulation of Byotrol products are suitable for use on a wide variety of surfaces and materials and do not damage or mark the materials during or after usage. They also present an extremely low toxicity profile to humans compared to other disinfectants in use within healthcare environments.

This news comes on the back of a recent announcement from Byotrol that it is seeking to extend its trial with a major NHS teaching hospital designed to test the efficacy of its products in combating the spread of hospital acquired MRSA. The initial phase of the trial was completed recently with encouraging preliminary results that show a significant reduction in environmental MRSA.

-

The Company is now seeking to extend the scope of the trial to assess the effectiveness of Byotrol's products across a wider range of operational clinical environments.

As Stephen Falder Business Development Director for Byotrol points out, “Hospital and medical laboratories are extremely demanding environments from an infection control perspective and much of the knowledge on infection control resides within the laboratory and infection control teams. This contract win means our products will be used in an extremely demanding environment and this will hopefully pave the way for wider adoption of our technology across the UK and beyond.”

“This is excellent news and represents great progress for us,” Stephen Falder adds.

According to Michael O’Donovan, Managing Director of Audit Diagnostics, “Byotrol’s technology will enable us to deliver a leading edge, yet proven solution to infection control in one of the most demanding healthcare environments. I believe the combination of Byotrol’s technology with our understanding of the hospital/laboratory environment will enable both companies to establish themselves as the defacto standard for infection control in this healthcare setting.”

BYOTROL LAUNCHES MRSA BUSTING ANTI MICROBIAL PRODUCT AND DEODORISER FOR CARE HOMES

Byotrol plc, the anti microbial technology company is launching a range of six products specifically designed to combat the spread of MRSA in care homes.

The range offers long lasting sanitisation and deodorisation in a variety of situations. All products offer long lasting protection against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms including E. coli, Legionella and Listeria, as well as MRSA and continue to be effective for up to seven days after application.

The deodorizing products are highly effective at eliminating odours from a wide range of surfaces and furnishings.

The company is launching the products at Europe’s leading conference and exhibition for the care home sector, The Healthcare Event 2006 19-22 January at the Gran Melia Don Pepe Resort, Marbella in Spain.

Byotrol has developed a range of three 750ml trigger spray products suitable for cleaning and sanitising kitchens and bathrooms as well as sanitising and deodorising living areas.

In addition, Byotrol has developed a 600ml pump action sanitising hand mousse dispenser and a 50ml personal hand held dispenser suitable for daily use by care home staff.

The sprays and mousses will be supported by a sanitising wipe product, suitable for general use.

The spread of MRSA and other pathogens represents a major risk within the care home environment. Byotrol’s products have been proven through a programme of independent testing to be effective for up to seven days after application and work against a wide range of micro-organisms.

The products are not toxic to humans and because of how the technology works, do not promote resistance in susceptible micro-organisms.

Byotrol’s products utilise a unique patented technology to deliver this range of benefits.

Byotrol products have a four stage effect on micro-organisms using changes in surface tension as the basis of their attack:

1.Byotrol’s component biocides attack micro-organisms on a surface as soon as the product is applied.

2.Byotrol then conditions the surfaces, such as walls or tables, before additional micro-organisms land, making it more difficult for the micro-organisms to settle on the surface, attach, and reproduce.

3.When micro-organisms secrete material in an attempt to form a biofilm, (i.e., what is needed for them to stick to the surface) the secretion compounds - proteins, polysaccharides, or oily type materials - are all disrupted by the pervading surface tension regime, making it much more difficult or impossible for the organisms to form a firm attachment to the surface.

4.Finally, the micro-organisms, in their weakened state, succumb to Byotrol’s residual, long-lasting biocidal action provided by its component biocides. These are not aggressive chemical compounds, but when acting on a micro- organism, they cause the organism’s membrane to burst before it has a chance to reproduce.

It is a combination of these actions that enable Byotrol to combat the spread of MRSA and other organisms by contact and also make it highly effective in preventing odour from urine and other bodily fluids.

Commenting on the launch of the product range to the care home market, Byotrol plc’s Healthcare Director Dr Peter Dandalides said, “This product range delivers real and tangible benefits to users within the care home sector and we have developed the range having listened to the their requirements. Combating the spread of antibiotic resistant organisms in an environment where there are many vulnerable people is a key issue for care home operators and the Byotrol product set addresses this issue head on. Critically, the technology is highly effective when applied to a wide range of surfaces and fabrics and it does not damage or stain them.”

BYOTROL LAUNCHES ANTI-FUNGAL LAMP POST COATING AND SECURES MAJOR CONTRACT WITH  BOURNEMOUTH COUNCIL

Anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc has launched an antimicrobial coating product designed to prevent the build up of damaging micro-organisms including bacteria, mould and algae on lamp posts and street furniture following extensive trials with Bournemouth Borough Council.

The launch represents the company’s first product development in the industrial sector since it raised £3M through a listing on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) earlier this summer and it follows a 24 month trial by its Distribution Partner Abatement Byotrol Ltd in conjunction with the Council and the UK’s largest street lighting contractor, Southern Electric Contracting (SEC).

Build up of Microbes on lamp posts is a major issue for Councils and transport departments, with excessive build up having the potential to compromise both structural and electrical safety.

The company estimates there are more than 15M street lamps across the UK and Byotrol believes the market could be worth more than £1 million

The contract will see Bournemouth Borough Council deploy a product containing the company’s Byotrol technology on more than 70,000 lamp posts that come under the Council’s maintenance control.

Byotrol’s patented technology offers a number of advantages over current solutions to the microbe problem because it is effective against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms, continues to work for many months after application and has very low levels of toxicity to humans in comparison to the alternatives currently available on the market place. This has been coupled with a high performance custom developed coating that is applied in a single application (compared with 2 or 3 currently required) offering labour savings and visual benefits.

Byotrol products work on two levels by eradicating micro-organisms on application through biocidal action and providing continuing protection by disrupting the biofilm formation process necessary for micro-organism reproduction. This means that the street furniture looks better and is safer for the public.

This product was developed following extensive work in the paint and coatings additives market where Byotrol already has a range of products deployed in a number of demanding environments.

The latest product is being made available in a range of colours and in comes in a 5 litre tin priced at £36.50, with discounts available on bulk orders.

According to Byotrol Deputy Chairman Stephen Falder, “Algae and mould build up on lamp posts is a very real problem for UK Councils and if un-checked it can compromise the performance and safety of street lamps. The application of our technology to this problem demonstrates the versatility of our products which are already being used in a wide range of sectors from health care to food processing.

“We believe there is an interesting commercial opportunity in this particular niche market,” Stephen Falder added.

Barrie Clark of Bournemouth Borough Council commented that, “We have undertaken a detailed series of trials with the team from Byotrol and they have demonstrated that Byotrol’s technology represents a real breakthrough in helping us address a little known but very real problem. Bournemouth Borough Council take safety issues extremely seriously and we also look for savings in labour and maintenance costs this product appears to help in both these areas.
